‘KALANK’ trailer out: Roop’s self-immolation pursuit illegitimate love with Zafar

After much ado, the makers of ‘Kalank’ finally released the trailer of the film today. The film’s star cast, Alia Bhatt (Roop), Varun Dhawan(Zafar), Sonakshi Sinha (Satya), Madhuri Dixit(Bahaar), Sanjay Dutt (Balraj)and Aditya Roy Kapur(Dev), were all present at trailer launch of ‘Kalank’. The trailer of Kalank shows the love triangle between Zafar, Roop and Dev. The story of ‘Kalank’ begins with Roop’s wedding to Dev, who is already married to Satya. Looks like Roop just walked into a relationship in which there’s respect but no love: “Iss rishte mein izzat hogi par koi pyaar nahi hoga,” Dev tells his new bride Roop. However, A devastated Roop develops a bond with zafar too, but realizes she has nothing to lose any further and is easily wooed by Zafar whose world is very different from Roop’s social positioning. By the end of the trailer, Scenes from Partition form the crux of the train sequence, in what seems like Karan Johar’s tribute to the iconic Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge track, but with a twist. We see glimpses of Madhuri Dixit Nene and Sanjay Dutt too in the trailer.The trailer also shows Kunal Khemu playing a pivotal role in the film. Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani were also seen performing a dance number in the trailer.

The teaser of this Karan Johar magnum opus was revealed last month, the period drama weaved a soulful story with incredible oh-so-beautiful lavish sets. Apart from trailer and the teaser of the film, makers also released three songs of the film – Ghar More Pardesiya, Alia and Madhuri mesmerise their audience with their dance moves, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani gets you grooving with their ‘First Class’ song, and the title track of the film in the magical voice of Arijit Singh will soothe your soul.

Earlier, Karan Johar took to social media to write an emotional post about the film. He wrote, “A film that was born in my heart and mind 15 years ago….a film I passionately believe in…the last film my father worked on before he left us….it was his dream to see this film come through….I couldn’t fulfill his dream then….my spirit was broken….but today his wish has found a relationship with celluloid….the story of turbulent relationships and eternal love has found a voice….the film has been woven,nurtured and visualised by ABHISHEK VARMAN….and the film Is KALANK!”

The film directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar, it is a period piece set in the pre-independence era of 1945. Karan Johar conceptualised the film some 15 years ago and is producing it now. The film is slated to hit the theatres on April 17, 2019.
