Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ Jaipur shoot in trouble

Activists of a local organization today demonstrated against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s  much-touted project “Padmavati”, which is being shot here, for allegedly “distorting historical facts”. Members of Karni Sena stalled the shooting of film at the Jaigarh fort. They stormed the set and damaged some chairs and other objects, forcing stoppage of the shooting. They warned the whole film crew to stop preparing for the film or else they will strike a protest and ban. “The film is presenting wrong facts about ‘Padmavati’. Our Basic protest is about distortion of historic facts which will Not be tolerated,” Vikram Singh, a Karni Sena activist said. After the incident, the director decided not to go ahead with the shooting in the state.
“There was a protest and the issue was settled after both the parties held talks,” said DPC North (Jaipur) Anshuman Bhomia. He said no FIR was lodged by anyone but five persons have been detained by the police for disturbing peace. The filmmaker has said he will not go ahead with the shooting plans here and he will pack up, Bhomia said. Singh claimed that Bhansali wants to present a “distorted fact” about Rani Padmavati which will not tolerated by the Rajput community. “We want that no distorted fact be shown in the film and have asked the filmmaker to take care of it. The Rajput community will strongly oppose any move of presenting wrong facts about Rani Padmavati,” he said.

Deepika Padukone plays queen Padmavati opposite Shahid Kapoor’s Ratan Singh. Ranveer Singh is in the role of Alauddin Khilji in the movie, which marks Bhansali’s return to period Era after the success of “Bajirao Mastani”.
