Qualcomm has officially announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, the latest addition to its mid-range mobile chipset lineup. As the successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, this new platform brings significant enhancements in performance, AI capabilities, gaming, and camera technology—many of which are appearing in the Snapdragon 7 series for the very first time.
Boosted CPU and GPU for Smoother Performance
Built on a 1+3+4 octa-core architecture, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 features:
- A 2.8GHz ARM Cortex-A720 prime core
- Three Cortex-A720 performance cores (up to 2.4GHz)
- Four Cortex-A520 efficiency cores (up to 1.84GHz)
According to Qualcomm, the new chipset delivers a 27% boost in CPU performance and a 30% improvement in GPU capabilities over its predecessor. The inclusion of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features ensures smoother, more optimized gameplay, even during extended gaming sessions.
AI Gets a Major Upgrade
AI processing sees a massive 65% boost, powered by the integrated Hexagon NPU. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 now supports on-device Gen AI assistants, can run large language models (LLMs), and introduces stable diffusion image generation—a first for the Snapdragon 7 lineup. These upgrades make the platform smarter and more efficient in real-time user interactions and photo/video enhancements.
Flagship-Grade Imaging Comes to the Mid-Range
A standout feature of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is its 12-bit triple Image Signal Processor (ISP) with support for up to 200MP camera sensors. Video capabilities get a serious lift with Real-time 4K60 Video Super Resolution, which preserves sharpness and clarity even during zoomed shots.
Additional features include:
- AI-powered autofocus
- Auto white balance and exposure
- Hardware-level image stabilization
These imaging upgrades are appearing in the Snapdragon 7 series for the first time, bringing near-flagship camera capabilities to mid-tier smartphones.
Coming Soon to Honor and Vivo Phones
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is expected to debut on the Honor 400 series, which is anticipated to launch later this month. Vivo is also rumored to be preparing a new smartphone powered by this latest chipset.
With major strides in performance, AI, and imaging, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is set to redefine the mid-range smartphone experience and bring premium features to a broader audience..
