CFL to Kick Off from Saturday, Participants Restricted to Ten

Kolkata: The Prestigious Calcutta Football League (CFL) 2017 is going to kick off from this Saturday(August 12th, 2017), as the local football giant East Bengal will lock horns with Rainbow AC at their home ground in the opening encounter. In a Media gathering at Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club (CSJC) on Wednesday evening, Indian Football Association (WB) announced the fixture, format and official Telecast Partner of Officer’s Choice Blue CFL Premier Division – A (2017-2018), which is the top most division of Calcutta Football League, started in 1898 and is the oldest and biggest league in Asia as well as one of the oldest league in the world, having nearly eight & half thousand registered players.

According to the voice of the IFA Secy Utpal Ganguly, Ten teams are participating in the league including two I-League Playing teams from this State – East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, other eight participants are Calcutta Customs Club, Md. Sporting Club, NBP Rainbow AC, Patha Chakra, Peerless Sports Club, Railway Football Club, Southern Samity and Tollygunge Agragami, while due to some reason Army XI Club has withdrawn their team this year from CFL to reduce it from eleven.

As the Chief Official remarked, The Champion team will be awarded with Rs. 25 lac, while Runners-Up will get Rs. 20 lac as Prize Money. Man of the Match winner will receive Rs. 5 thousand for their premier effort, though sum of the Man of the Series is yet to be decided.

The matches will begin at 18:00 hours, whereas the matches, scheduled to play at East Bengal Ground will be started at15:00 hours due to lack of Flood Lights. Viewers can tune in to Kolkata TV for the live feeds of 36 matches out of 45 encounters. Repeat telecast will be aired on Kolkata Live. According to the lead sources of the Telecast Partner, Six TV cameras will be installed in the ground on match days to send interruption free live feeds, if needed, they will install one or more; to send live feeds in the International matches, Telecast Partners use minimum 22 cameras in a ground each.

The I-League Top Guns will be vying for their pride in this coveted league, though venues for the Derby matches are yet to be finalized, but the IAF Top Brass has confirmed – Red & Golden warriors will clash with Green & Maroon brigade either at Shiliguri or Kalyani Stadium. The League is expected to be wrapped up before Durga Puja. Meanwhile, date and venues for some matches are expected to be finalized soon.
