Union Minister Announces Potential New Airport in Sikkim to Boost Tourism

On Sunday (4th May), Union Minister Ramdas Athawale revealed that an airport is likely to be constructed in Sikkim, aimed at enhancing tourism in the region.

During a press conference , Union Minister affirmed the Centre’s commitment to the overall progress of Sikkim. He praised the state’s remarkable growth in the tourism sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Athawale, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, is currently on a two-day visit to the state. He highlighted the substantial progress made by the entire Northeast region under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The state’s BJP has been advocating for an all-weather international airport in Sikkim to further enhance tourism. Currently, Sikkim’s only operational airport, Pakyong, faces challenges due to low visibility, resulting in frequent service closures for extended periods.
