Janhvi Kapoor has once again made headlines with her bold fashion choices, this time at the 2025 Met Gala

Janhvi Kapoor turned heads at the 2025 Met Gala with a striking “Victorian Desi” look that blended regal British aesthetics with traditional Indian craftsmanship. Her outfit—a corset-style bodice paired with a mermaid skirt—sparkled with intricate beadwork and sequins, showcasing a bold fusion of cultures.

In a comment on Diet Sabya’s post, Janhvi Kapoor highlighted that global recognition for Indian artisans and designers is long overdue. She stressed that Indian talent belongs on the world stage alongside the country’s cultural icons, and urged people to celebrate their presence at events like the Met Gala rather than criticize it.

The Param Sundari actress expressed immense pride in the garments showcased at the Met Gala, calling them some of the most stunning on the red carpet. She emphasized that Indian craftsmanship has been used by global fashion houses for decades—often without due credit.

Janhvi Kapoor also pointed to the persistent classist attitudes surrounding the representation of Indian culture in global fashion, calling them a lingering effect of colonial trauma. She noted that for years, the world has borrowed from India’s rich legacy of textiles, embroidery, and jewelry without acknowledging their roots.

Reflecting on the moment, Kapoor said it was deeply moving to finally see Indian artisans and their heritage recognized at such a prestigious global platform. She described the experience as “magical,” made even more special by the overwhelming sense of pride it evoked.

The 2025 Met Gala also saw several high-profile Indian celebrities take center stage. Shah Rukh Khan made his much-anticipated debut at the event, appearing alongside Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh, while Priyanka Chopra marked her fifth appearance on fashion’s biggest night. Khan opted for an elegant black ensemble crafted by renowned designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

Kiara Advani, embracing her pregnancy, wore a custom outfit that featured a striking metallic heart motif and an artistic interpretation of an umbilical cord—symbolizing motherhood and new beginnings. Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh proudly represented his Punjabi heritage in a look that included a detailed map of Punjab and traditional Gurmukhi embroidery.

This year’s Met Gala was co-chaired by an eclectic mix of global icons, including singer Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, and longtime Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Basketball legend LeBron James joined them as an honorary co-chair, lending even more star power to the prestigious event.
